Our History

Hayes & Schneider Properties was founded by Jack Hayes and Mitchell Schneider and first opened for business on January 1, 1983. Jack had been manager of the Arlington office of White House Real Estate for many years. In that capacity, he had brought on Mitchell as a new agent in 1978.

Jack, his wife Martha, also an agent, and Mitchell shared a philosophy of treating clients honestly, knowledgeably, and with sensitivity and respect. They wanted to keep a low profile themselves and put the focus on satisfying the needs of their buyers and sellers, figuring that if they did so their business would prosper by referral—as, very quickly, it did.

In 1985, Hayes & Schneider moved to its present location, an office townhouse at 5231 Wilson Blvd., Arlington, VA 22205.

Susan Sarcone, who had joined the company as an agent in 1988, succeeded Jack Hayes as co-owner with Mitchell in 1994. Jack retired fully the following year and passed away in 2005. Martha continues to be actively involved as an agent with the firm.

Looking to the future, Mitchell, Susan, office manager Karen Crow and their other associates and staff at Hayes & Schneider hope to continue to give you nothing but their best, still believing that working within a small company is the way to do it.
